Salem Oregon, Oregon’s capitol city is perfectly located in the center of the Willamette Valley with the Oregon Coast, Portland, and Detroit Lake all within less than one hours drive. The city sets right up again the Willamette River running north just beside the city Salem.
The story of Salem Oregon started in 1842 with it’s founding, then becoming the Capitol of the Oregon Territory in 1851, followed by incorporation just 6 years later in 1857.

Salem is the proud home of Willamette University, Chemawa Indian School, Chemeketa Community College, Oregon School for the Deaf and many other fine community resources and institutions.
The largest private employer is by far the Salem Hospital. Due to the presence of so many state offices Salem Oregon has the majority of state jobs which are for the most part located in the core downtown area.
